Kihon · Kicks · Jion · Nijushiho · Kumite — a full day of technical excellence with one of the UK’s finest coaches.
“His ability to connect technical understanding with practical application made every segment immediately useful — whether you’re competing or simply developing your karate.”
— Attendee feedback, JDB Sports Seminar April 2026
Building on this, the group moved into the advanced kata Nijushiho. This was a standout moment of the seminar, where Matt Sensei demonstrated not only technical mastery but also the importance of expression, timing, and intent. Every participant rose to the challenge, giving their best effort and fully engaging with the learning process.
The final hour focused on Kumite, where Matt Sensei shared high-level tactical concepts. A key takeaway was his emphasis on controlling the opponent — particularly the concept of “pulling your opponent as if they were on a string” to create scoring opportunities in a bout scenario. This insight added a new layer of understanding to timing, distance, and control in sparring.
