From a five-year-old walking into his first karate class in Abingdon to JKS World Champion at 13. Now seeking partners for the 2026–27 season.
Who is Jakob?
Jakob De Brum is a 14-year-old karateka from Abingdon, Oxfordshire. He started training at Can Do Martial Arts (now JKS Abingdon) aged five, and has spent nine years turning up when nobody was watching: early mornings, long drives, tough losses and hard-won wins.
In August 2026, aged 13, he travelled to Vitória, Brazil with the JKS England Squad and was crowned JKS World Champion in Individual Kata, adding gold in Team Kumite for England. He is a 2nd Dan Black Belt, and his story has been featured in the Abingdon Herald, the Oxford Mail and the Oxford Chronicle.
