Jakobs Easter Updates
Jakob has had a highly productive and positive couple of weeks over the Easter break, showing clear development across training consistency, physical conditioning, and technical performance as a young karate athlete.
Competition Success
The highlight of this period was Jakob’s recent competition in the North East, where he delivered a strong performance and contributed to securing a gold medal for the team. For a full breakdown of his performance and competition recap, visit his official JDB Sports article:

Training Consistency and Work Ethic
Consistency has been a major strength throughout the break. Jakob has maintained regular attendance at the dojo while also completing additional training sessions at home. These have included high intensity interval training, cardio work, ladder drills, kettlebells, and dumbbells. His discipline, focus, and commitment to improvement remain clearly evident.
Physical Condition and Recovery
Jakob’s Osgood Schlatter condition has started to ease, which is a positive step in his physical development. This has allowed him to gradually increase training intensity when appropriate. He has been training three to four times per week at the dojo, alongside extra work at home, often with only one rest day. This workload has been carefully supported by MotionMender Body Work, helping his recovery and maintaining readiness for continued performance.
Technical Progress: Kumite and Kata
There has been clear technical improvement, particularly in kumite. The work being done in training is transferring into performance, and Jakob is showing stronger execution and confidence in this area.
Kata continues to be a consistent strength. Following the previous competition, adjustments were made to both training approach and kata selection in order to manage his knee condition. These adaptations have supported continued progression while protecting his physical health, and their full impact will become clearer in upcoming events.
Support and Recovery
Special thanks is extended to MotionMend Body Work for their continued support in Jakob’s recovery, treatment, and physical maintenance throughout this training period. Their input has been valuable in helping him manage workload, recover effectively, and stay ready for consistent training and performance.
Lessons Learned and Mindset
One of the most encouraging developments is Jakob’s ability to push beyond previous limitations. Lessons from recent competitions have been taken on board, and his mindset remains focused on continuous improvement. His commitment to applying feedback and improving process is clearly visible.
